Cuba experienced a continuing downward trend of new COVID-19 cases this week with only 161 active cases and one new death as of the time of publication.

U.S.-Cuba News Brief: 05/22/2020

Dear Friends,

We hope you and yours are safe and healthy. This week, we’re keeping calm during quarantine by listening to Cuban hip hop and afro-rock musician X-Alfonso’s new release, “Inside.”

Cuba experienced a continuing downward trend of new COVID-19 cases this week, reporting only eight new positive cases. Following last week’s increase in fatalities, the island also saw a record low of only one COVID-19-related death. Active cases totaled 223 as of the time of publication.

We appreciate and are incredibly encouraged by your commitment to CDA’s work during these tough times, and with your generous support, we are dedicated, as always, to preserving and building upon engagement with the region.

This week, Cuba’s trend of fewer new COVID-19 cases continued but the island saw an increase in fatalities. As of press time, Cuba has reported 334 active cases, 79 deaths, 1,425 recuperated patients, and 1,840 overall positive diagnoses.

U.S.-Cuba News Brief: 05/08/2020

Thank you to all of those who have donated and all of those who support CDA in so many ways. We are grateful for you. If you missed #GivingTuesdayNow, there’s still time to, if you can, contribute to our campaign, which we’ve extended until next Tuesday. We’re over halfway to our $4,000 goal!

This week, check out “Cuba Corona TV,” a series of mashups of Cuban art, including dance, musical performances, poetry reading, and more, performed during quarantine. Also, check out Tunturuntu pa’ tu casa, bringing Cuban concerts right to your living room (and reminding us to stay at home!).

As the pandemic continues, Cuba is reporting the most new COVID-19 deaths this week since April, though the trend of fewer new cases continues. As of press time, Cuba has reported 623 active cases, 73 deaths, 1,031 recuperated patients, and 1,729 overall positive diagnoses.

U.S.-Cuba News Brief: 05/01/2020

Dear Friends,

This week, Cuban singer Aymée Nuviola, Cuba’s hit funk band Cimafunk, and Cuban jazz pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba, are keeping our quarantine upbeat with their new track Azúcar pa’ tu café, featuring a strong dance beat and one of Cimafunk’s signature catchy hooks. In other Cuban music news, Cuban female hip-hop duo La Reyna y La Real released their new album Mírame this week.

This week saw a decrease in active COVID-19 cases reported as compared to previous weeks. As of press time, Cuba has reported 757 active cases, 64 deaths, 714 recuperated patients, and 1,537 overall positive diagnoses.
